I believe I've had a personal breakthrough today. I've been teaching myself Max for a while now, (with some help from Lynda.com ), and I ****THINK**** I've finally figured out animation.
Here's what I've got:
Once the model is ready for animation, rigged, physiqued, whatever else....
I turn on Animate, select the *ENTIRE* model (bones and all if necessary), and set a key. This is my reference pose.
I then turn off Animate, and set the key tangents to: In: Step, Out: Smooth.
I then Shift+Drag copy that key to other points in the timeline corresponding to the length of each animation +1 frame.
I scrub back to the first frame of each animation, turn Animate back on, and create the animation for that time sequence.
Rinse, Repeat.
Right? Please??

Good Indigo!
How very nice it is to see you getting into animation. It's my most fun project for MW. There's no need to select the whole biped for your default pose. Click any bip bone, turn on Animation and use the Copy Pose function (it's a drop down in the biped systems menu under the check-markicon for copy posture). This becomes your default pose. Paste that upon the first frame and you're done. There after you can go back to frame one, copy pose and paste it at the end (and start) of each animation sequence you create. Faster rinse, faster lather!
Don't forget to set time to Custom and 15 fps before you start your animation process! :::)

YAY! Thank the powers that be!
I've been wanting to do this *forever*!
And now that I've figured it out... I'll be sure to combine this with some of the reactor effects I've learned import directly into Morrowind!
HEE HEE HEE!
